Born about 1929 in the Frederick Range, Australian Aboriginal artist Long Tom Tjapanangka worked as a stockman and police tracker, and didn't start painting until 1993. His only solo exhibitions were held with Niagara Galleries in Melbourne and Schubert Galleries in Queensland during 1995 and 1998 and he won the 2000 Telstra-sponsored 16th National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award (NATSIAA), but ceased painting soon after.
The earliest auction listing we have for Long Tom Tjapanangka is in 1998 and in total 107 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 56 (52%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $43,200 for Puli Kutjarra sold by Sotheby's in November 2007. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Long Tom Tjapanangka are held by the National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of NSW and a further four major public national galleries (see list below).
