Born in New South Wales in 1908, Margo Lewers studied at Antonio Dattilo-Rubbo's evening art classes and at the Central School of Arts and Crafts, London in 1934 and 1935. After returning to Sydney, she completed further evening classes with Desiderius Orban between 1940 and 1945 and worked as an artist for the Sydney 'Daily Telegraph' before taking up a full-time artistic career working with painting, sculpture, tapestry, ceramics and the domestic arts. She became a member of the Sydney branch of the Contemporary Art Society and exhibited in their annual exhibitions. After her death, a major retrospective, the Margo Lewers Retrospective was held at the SH Ervin Galleryin 2002 and toured six regional galleries.
