The son of artists Roy and Betty Churcher, Peter Churcher was born in Brisbane in 1964. He holds a Bachelor of Music (Hons) from Melbourne University acquired in 1986, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Prahran School of Art and Design, from 1991. His first solo exhibition was in 1994. He was appointed by the Australian War Memorial to record his impressions of the Australian involvement in the coalition war against terrorism in the Middle East in 2003. He was an Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize finalist in 2005, 2006, 2014 and 2015. He currently lives and and works in Spain.
