Born in Oatley, NSW in 1953, Fiona Hall decided upon a career in art whilst still at high school. She studied at the East Sydney Technical School (ESTS) for a Diploma of Painting and then turned to photography. During the 1980’s her work evolved by using a diverse range of art forms including sculpture, painting, installation design and video. Best known for her photographs of assemblages, she represented Australia at the 2015 Venice Biennale with the installation Wrong Way Time. Hall has exhibited widely. Major retrospectives of her work have been held by Queensland Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of South Australia, Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney and has also toured to City Gallery Wellington, and Christchurch Art Gallery in New Zealand.
