Born in Taranaki, New Zealand in 1945, Darcy Nicholas is a self taught Maori contemporary artist. A painter in acylic on paper and canvas, and sculptor, he has travelled widely studying native and traditional art of the local peoples. He lived in Melbourne in 1973 and now lives in Lower Hutt in the North Island, 17 km north of Wellington. As well as exhibiting throughout New Zealand he hs also exhibited in Australia, Africa, United States, France, India, Britain, Germany, Netherlands, and Canada. He was awarded a Fullbright Scholarship in 1984 enabling him to study American and African art in the USA. In 2005 he won the Creative Wellington Award for his services to the arts.
