Deutscher and Hackett’s latest timed online auction is a great opportunity to pick up works by some of Australia’s well-known artists without destroying the budget.

Classified as modern, contemporary and traditional art, the sale will close from 7pm Tuesday May 23 and features affordable paintings, prints and sculptures by such luminaries as Sidney Nolan, Bill Henson, Tim Storrier, Tim Maguire, Brett Whiteley, Russell Drysdale, Robert Klippel and Norman Lindsay.

Among the top estimates of the 30 works on offer is Michael Johnson’s Italian Pink (also known as Spanish Visitor), 1988 (Lot 2 ) – with a catalogue estimate of $30,000-$40,000.

Storrier has an interesting landscape entitled SS Orizaba, 1997, (Lot 9 ) while Whiteley’s Startled (Owl), 1984 (Lot 13 ) is certainly worth a close look. Klippel’s No. 286 Metal Construction, 1973 (Lot 16 ) is typical of his sculptures while Albert Tucker’s Ibis in Flight (Lot 17 ) is a great affordable example of his work.

Norman Lindsay’s Messenger from the East, 1924 (Lot 28 ) is another interesting painting while Nolan and Drysdale feature respectively with Landscape, c1956 (Lot 18 ) and Golden Gully, c1949 (Lot 19 ).
