Another atypical work for Perth is, Charles Bryant’s (1883-1937) painting, Circular Quay (Lot 19 ), highly evocative night scene of the electric advertising signs and bustling harbour ferries of the  c1920’s. Also, a wonderful study from the charismatic Murray Griffin, 1903-1992, Old Log in Forest (Lot 4 ), and a sensitive tonal early-period work by Ray Crooke, (1922-2015), View of Mosman, Sydney harbour (Lot 2 ).

The art component of the September sale at McKenzies Auctions in Perth includes a diverse collection of works from Australian painters that don’t often appear within Western Australia, an example being an exceptional work by Harold Greenhill (1914-1995) Evening on the Seine, 1950 (Lot 1 )  estimated at $1,600 - 2,500.

Albert Sherman, (1882-1971) Polyanthus and Forget-Me-Nots (Lot 3 ) flower study is expected to attract strong bidding, as well as a local landscape study from Michael Challen (1957-2011) Untitled - Possibly East Fremantle (Lot 7 ). Other painters of note include Roland Shakespeare Wakelin (1887-1971) Untitled – Landscape (Lot 5 ), three works from West Australian, Howard Taylor (1918-2001) (Lot 34 ), (Lot 35 ), (Lot 36 ), Francis Lymburner (1916-1972) oil sketch Guardsman on a Horse (Lot 6 ), two pieces by William ‘Bill’ Stephen Coleman (1922-1993) (Lots 20), (Lot 21 ) and a charming still life by Mary McCartney Macqueen (1912-1994) Aboriginal Still Life (Lot 12 ).

The German-born Australian sculptor Inge King (1915-2016) Lady (Lot 11 ) a 160 cm patinated welded steel piece set up for wall-mounting is a rare opportunity to own a work by this important artist whose work appears in all of the major national collections.

Australian photographers represented are Mark Strizic (1928-2012) with some powerful black and white Melbourne street scenes taken in the early ‘60s (Lots 54 and 55) and Wolfgang Sievers (1913-2002) Australian Paper and Pulp Mills, Burnie, Tasmania 1956 (Lot 52, an immaculate silver gelatin print) and Old Cottages at Aldinga, South Australia 1976 (Lot 53 ) C-Type photograph, a copy of which is held in the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

There are some very fine Indigenous works of art and artefacts in this sale, from Rammey Ramsey b.1935 Untitled 2008 , bold and striking in gouache (Lot 99 ), Hector Jandary (c1929-2007) two beautiful works in ochres on canvas (Lots 101 and 102) and an impressive work by Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri c1933-2002 Karrakatji - Honey Ant Dreaming (Lot 65 ). There are some excellent bark paintings from Wally Mandarrk 1915-1987 (Lot 72 ), England Bangala c1925-2001 (Lot 75 ) and (Lot 76 ) and Djawida Nadjongorle c1943-2008 (Lot 81 ) amongst others.
