West Australia has its own much loved stable of West Australian bred artists, whom are highly sought after by the locals, and the lucky others, whose artworks regularly flow through the revolving doors of the local auction houses and the McKenzie’s Spring Auction, on the 23 November, is no exception.

The auction consists of 210 lots, with the sale estimates totalling between $338,150 and $535,475. All but eight lots in this auction are estimated under the $10,000 mark.

Always a favourite and well sought after with West Australian art buyers, Guy Grey-Smith, Wild Flowers II, 1974 (Lot 76 ) 49 x 38.5cm with an estimate $7,500 - $10,000, this work being one of eight by the artist to go under the hammer this year.

Also included is an early work by Robert Juniper, Woodland Fantasy, 1963 (Lot 87 ) est. $9,500 - $15,000 and a later work After the Burn, 2006 (Lot 85 ) $16,000 - $26,000, both of which are illustrated in the two books of Robert Juniper. Robert Juniper, Art Gallery of Western Australia publication, 1999 p.34 and Robert Juniper by Gavin Fry, The Beagle Press 2009, page 182 respectively.

There is a well preserved collection of John Gould’s Birds of Australia and Mammals of Australia, (Lots 28 – 55). John Gould original hand coloured lithograph, (Lot 43 ) Leadbeaters Cockatoo – Cacatua Leadbeaterii, from, Birds of Australia, with a high estimate of $10,500; John Gould’s Birds of Australia and Mammals of Australia comprise 28 lots in this auction.

 Illustrated on the front cover of the auction catalogue, Theodore Penleigh Boyd, Ghost Gums and Figure (Lot 72 ) is a good size oil painting, one of only a few to come to auction each year, with a conservative low estimate of $14,000.
