Alisdair McGregor was born in Sydney, N.S.W. in 1954. He graduated as Bachelor of Architecture (Hons.), but is mostly self-taught as an artist. A wildlife painter in oil, acrylic, watercolour and pen he spent 1976 in Tasmania and accompanied the 1983 expedition to Antarctica's Heard Island. McGregor was commissioned by Australia Post to paint a series of postage stamp paintings from his highly acclaimed South Pole series of paintings.
