Born in Sydney in 1901, Lawrence studied at the Sydney Art School and later in London and Paris. He was a member of the Society of Artists, Sydney and is best known for his cityscapes and street scenes. He won the Wynne Prize for Landscape, Sydney in 1949, the Crouch Prize in Ballarat in 1949 and the Bendigo Art Prize in 1950.
