Born in England in 1931, Owen Piggott studied at the Dudley School of Art in the the UK, and then at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and Melbourne University after his arrival in Melbourne in 1950. An abstract painter and teacher, he first exhibited in Melbourne in 1964 and since then has held exhibitions Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Adelaide. He taught at secondary level from 1953 to 1962 and at tertiary level at the State College, Frankston in 1984 annd 1986. In 1998 a retrospective of his work was held at the Gippsland Art Gallery, Sale, Victoria. He died on July 5, 2015, at Metung, Gippsland, Victoria, Australia.
