Born in Brisbane in 1934, Gordon Shepherdson studied art in Brisbane under Caroline Barker, Jon Molvig and Andrew Sibley. While working in an abattoir during his early years, slaughtered animals formed the theme of his painting. Shepherdson first exhibited in 1964. In 1980 he was awarded the Georges Art Prize.
We have records of art auction sales by Gordon Shepherdson from 1974 and in total 34 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 24 (71%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $7,320 for Stepping Up to the Gutter sold by Mossgreen Auctions in June 2013. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Gordon Shepherdson are held by the Queensland Art Gallery, National Gallery of Australia and National Gallery of Victoria.
