Born in London in 1879, Edward Warner studied art and trained as an engraver before travelling to Australia in 1910. He moved to Auckland in 1911 where he worked for New Zealand newspapers, returning to Sydney in 1919 and opening a commercial art studio. He acquired an etching press and became well known as an etcher and lithographer, as well as a painter. A foundation member of the Australian Ex Librus Society in Sydney in 1923, he exhibited with the Australian Society of Painters and Etchers. Warner is also known to have produced etchings signed G Marler and J. Dodd. His works are often catalogued as Ernest or Eric Warner.
