Australian photo-realist photographer Petrina Hicks was born in 1972 and grew up in Sydney. She was awarded a Master of Fine Arts from Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Communications and Media from the University of Canberra. Her first commercial solo exhibition was in 2005 in Sydney, and since then she has held solo exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth and overseas in Japan, Germany and the USA. Notable prizes and residencies include the Josephine Ulrick Photography Award for Portraiture in 2003, the ABN Emerging Artist Award in 2008 and La Cité, Paris Residency also in 2008. A major survey of her work from 2003 to 2019 was held at the National Gallery of Victoria in 2019/2020. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions in Australia and overseas.
