Born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1930, Lois McIvor studied part time at the Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland from 1954 to 1957, after which she attended classes at Auckland Art Gallery. A landscape painter, frequently of the South Island's west coast, she was a founding member of the Association of Women Artists and exhibited with The Group in 1962 and 1968.
