Born in Germany around 1814, portraitist, Alexander Schramm arrived in South Australia in 1849. he exhibited regularly in Adelaide from 1857 to 1964 and his work includes family portrairts, bush landscapes and Australian aboriginals. A series of paintings of Aboriginal life is included in the National Gallery of South Australia.
