Born in the early 1800s in England, Richard Noble arrived in Australia in 1855. He studied at the Royal Academy and exhibited with the Society for the Promotion of Fine Arts prior to his arrival in Australia. A painter of romantic, Victorian genre scenes, whilst in Australia he also painted many portraits of the local gentry and their children. He lived in Sydney and Goulburn from 1855 to 1868, when he returned (disconsolately) to England.
