Australian abstract sculptor James Angus was born in 1970 in Perth and completed Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts), Curtin University of Technology in 1990 and a Master of Fine Arts (Sculpture) at Yale University School of Art in 1998. He taught and lectured at tertiary level between 1991 and 2008 at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Sydney College of the Arts and the University of Technology Sydney. His first solo exhibition was in Perth in 1991, followed by exhibitions in Sydney, Adelaide and Canberra and overseas in New Zealand, Paris, and New York. As well he has participated in group exhibitions in Melbourne, Hobart, Auckland, Paris, South Korea, Hong Kong, Chicago, Minneapolis. James Angus has been awarded Australia Council grants in in 1998, 2001 and 2009, a a Studio Residency at Cite des Arts, Paris in 2003. In 2008 he was awarded the Basil Sellers Art Prize in Melbourne. He now lives and works in New York.
