Born in the Netherlands in 1924, Els Noordhof studied at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam where she was awrded a Master of Fine Arts. She lived in England and USA prior to her arrival in New Zealand in 1966. A painter and teacher, she taught at Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin and was a lecturer in painting at University of Otago, Kurow Summer Arts Schools, South Island New Zealand from 1970 to 1973. Her lecturers included. Colin McCahon; Janet Paul; Don Peebles; and Doris Lusk. She was a patron of the Otago Art Society.
The total number of works by Els Noordhof offered for sale by auction since 1993 is 60, of which 45 (75%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,525 for Reclining Nude sold by International Art Centre in October 2005. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Els Noordhof are held by the Suter Art Gallery.
