Born in Stirling, Scotland in about 1853, John Veitch studied at the Glasgow School of Art before sailing to New Zealand and settling in Dunedin. He exhibited oils and watercolours of the Otago region with the South Canterbury Art Society, the Canterbury Society of Arts and the Otago Art Society.
The total number of works by John Veitch offered for sale by auction since 1993 is 57, of which 32 (56%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,836 for Walker's Ridge, Anzac, Gallipoli sold by Dunbar Sloane in August 2008. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
