Born in Israel in 1936, Asher Bilu arrived in Australia in 1957. His paintings are sophisticated textures which are built to non-figurative and, at times, disturbing pictures. In 1965 he won the Blake Prize and he has many one-man shows.

The earliest auction listing we have for Asher Bilu is in 1969 and in total 140 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 92 (66%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $37,200 for Perhaps We Should Believe in Magic 1988 sold by Sotheby's in August 2012. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Asher Bilu are held by the Heide Museum of Modern Art, National Gallery of Australia and a further two major public national galleries (see list below).
