Born in England in 1821, Thomas Ham was an engraver and publisher. He arrived in Melbourne in 1842 and established Melbourne's first engraving business. In 1850 he established the 'Australian Illustrated Magazine' which ran until 1852. Ham published engravings of maps and life on the goldfields. Many of the drawings for these were done by David Tulloch. In about 1860 Ham moved to Queensland.
