About Joseph Luke Fleury
Born in Hobart in 1872, Fleury studied at the Hobart Technical College and under Julian Ashton in Sydney. Best known as an artist of religious subjects, he decorated many Roman Catholic churches throughout Australia. He was decorated by Pope Pius XI for his service to the church.
We have records of art auction sales by Joseph Fleury from 1972 and in total 15 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 9 (60%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,045 for Horses and Dray on a Mountain Road sold by Christies in May 1988.
