Born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1882 as Eleanor Waymouth, Eleanor Hughes studied under Charles Worsley before travelling to England. She married English artist R. M. Hughes in 1910 and after living in Italy, returned to England and settled in Cornwall. A watercolourist and etcher, she became a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1933.
