Born in Lancashire, England in 1909, John Dutruc studied at Brighton Art School and arrived in Australia in 1932. An abstract painter, he became a member of the Melbourne Contemporary Art School and the Contemporary Art Society in Sydney. Dutruc worked as a cattle drover, scrub cutter, gold and tin miner.
