Born in Italy in 1921, Bruno Cengarle learned to paint frescoes for churches before his arrival in Australia in 1949, where he studied art in Melbourne. He is a painter and portraitist in the classical style, and has exhibited in Melbourne and Brisbane. Cengale's portrait commissions include Gina Lollobrigida and the former Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Ralph Bernadi.
