Born in Sydney in 1912, John McCredie studied at the Dattilo Rubbo School in Sydney. An oil painter, initially of landscapes, he was encouraged by John Allcot to paint marine subjects, which he did from about 1962. McCredie's work is represented in the National Library in Canberra.
