Born in France in 1850, Lucien Henry arrived in Australia in 1880 after being exiled to New Caledonia for political reasons. In Australia he took a position as instructor at Australia's first modelling school and later lectured at the first art school. Although he is best known for portraits and busts, Lucien Henry also designed stained glass windows for the Sydney Town Hall. He returned to Europe in 1889 and died in 1896.
