Born in Sydney in 1928, Marea Gazzard studied ceramics in Sydney and London. She travelled extensively throughout the American continent, Europe and Australia, working, teaching and exhibiting her ceramics. In London she enrolled at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London where she studied from 1955 to 1959 working with ceramicists Lucie Rie and Hans Coper. On her return Gazzard studied sculpture at the National Art School. She was elected President of the World Crafts Council in 1980. In 1973, Marea Gazzard was invited to exhibit at the National Gallery of Victoria in the major exhibition with Mona Hessing and in 1994, a survey of Gazzard's work was staged at the S. H. Ervin Gallery, Sydney. Gazzard has won several awards and was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1979.

We have records of art auction sales by Marea Gazzard from 1982 and in total 29 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 26 (90%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $15,600 for Dial sold by Shapiro Auctioneers in May 2016. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2021.
