For 8 years from 1980, he travelled between Australia and Europe, drawing for newspapers and magazines, and illustrating books. He became a full time artist in 1982 specialising in etching. During this period, he exhibited in France, England, Germany and Italy, and completed his illustrated children’s book The Voyage of Naram-Sin. In 1988 he moved permanently to Italy, and began to paint in oils, supporting himself working for Italian publishers and leading cultural tour groups in Italy.
