Born in 1906 in South Africa, Angus Gray arrived in New Zealand as a child of three. He studied at the Christchurch School of Art, and about 1928 travelled to England for further studies. He spent some time in South Africa before returning to New Zealand in 1935. Gray exhibited with the Centennial Exhibition in 1939, in Wellington and Christchurch and with the Rome Academy.
We have records of art auction sales by Angus Gray from 1994 and in total 26 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 18 (69%) were sold. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2020. Works by Angus Gray are held by the Christchurch Art Gallery.
