Born in Germany in 1893, Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack was one of the leaders of the German Bauhaus School. After studying extensively in Germany he became a foundation member of the Weimar Bauhaus in 1920. Prior to the war he moved to Britain and arrived in Australia in 1940. Within two years he became art master at Geelong Grammar School in Victoria.
