Born in Sydney in 1944, Voigt studied at the National Art School, Sydney from 1964 to1968. In 1968 he won the English Speaking Union Travelling Scholarship, and was awarded the use of a studio in Paris. He had his first solo show in Canberra in 1968. From 1969 to 1972 David Voigt worked and exhibited in Paris and travelled throughout Europe. Well known as a contemporary painter and printmaker, he has had over 100 solo and group exhibitions Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane, Hobart and Perth. He was awarded are the Blake Prize in 1976 and 1981 and the Wynne Prize, also in 1981 for an Australian landscape.
