Self taught caricaturist and pastellist, Morris Cohen was born in Ballarat in 1866. He exhibited with the Victorian Artists' Society in 1889, 1892 and 1900, exhibiting alongside many of the leading Australian artists of his generation. He travelled and painted extensively overseas and was part of the thriving Melbourne art scene at the turn of the 20th century. The Art Gallery of Ballarat has a large, donated collection of his works and held a retrospective in 2021.
