Born in Melbourne in 1929, Meadmore studied at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He first came to notice as an industrial designer, winning the 'Good Design Award' in Sydney in 1953 for his steel dining chair. Best known as a sculptor, he spent many years in Europe. He returned to Sydney for two years and in 1963, he moved to the USA where he became a citizen in 1976. Meadmore exhibited widely in Australia and the USA with many of his major works in public instalations. He died in 2005.
We have records of art auction sales by Clement Meadmore from 1979 and in total 190 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 152 (80%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $170,800 for Wallflower sold by Deutscher and Hackett in May 2017. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Clement Meadmore are held by the National Gallery of Victoria, National Gallery of Australia and a further six major public national galleries (see list below).
