About Louis Tannert
Born in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1844, Louis Tannert arrived in Australia in the late 1870s. Prior to migrating he is recording as exhibiting in Dusseldorf and Berlin and after his arrival he exhibited with the Victorian Academy of Arts in 1878 and 1879. He moved to Adelaide in 1880 and taught at the Adelaide School of Painting for three years, After which he was the Curator at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
The earliest auction listing we have for Louis Tannert is in 1970 and in total 23 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 16 (70%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $45,600 for In the Garden sold by Deutscher~Menzies in June 2008. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2009.
