Born in 1881, Nora Gurdon studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne. She was a member of the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors and the Australian Art Association. She is well known for her late impressionist landscapes and is also associated with the Heidelberg School. Gurdon went to England in 1914 and worked in France during World War I, returning to Australia in 1920. She was a member of the Australian Art Association and the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors, joining as early as 1923. She lived and worked in Mount Dandenong near Melbourne.
