Luke Roberts was born in 1952 in Alpha, a small town 1000km west of Brisbane. He studied at the Julian Ashton School, Sydney in 1971 and the Queensland College of Art, Brisbane in 1972-74. He was co-director of E.M.U. an experimental art space in Woolloongabba, Brisbane from 1970-80 and from 1984/87 he lived and worked in Europe. In 1996 he was awarded a Fellowship Residency at P.S.1 Studio, Institute of Contemporary Art, New York. A painter, photographer and performance artist, Luke Roberts has shown at solo and group shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and overseas since 1990. IN 2002 Luke Roberts was Australian representative at the Sydney Biennale, Sydney and was a finalist in the Archibald Prize in 2012.
