Born in 1943, Dick Frizzell is a New Zealand postmodern artist who often uses well known images such as comic book figures or labels from tinned food and represents them in a surrealistic style. He trained at the Elam School of Fine Arts of the University of Canterbury from 1960 to 1963, and then worked in advertising where he gained his appreciation for the advertising characters he uses in his work.

Dick Frizzell is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1989 of 1,814, of which 1,204 (66%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $120,809 for Self Portrait as a Serious Artiste sold by Art+Object in March 2021. This year 29 works have been offered for sale.
