Born in the United Kingdom in 1813, Albin Martin studied in England under John Linnell, landscape and portrait painter. He worked in Italy before migrating to New Zealand with his family in 1851. He began farming at Tamaki near Auckland and moved to Ellerslie in 1882. Albin is known for painting landscapes, in oils and watercolours in the style of French painter Claude Lorrain.
