Kathleen Sauerbier was born in Brighton, Adelaide in 1903. Sauerbier's initial art training was under Frederick Britton at the School of Fine Arts, in North Adelaide. In 1925 she travelled to London and studied at the Cenral School of Art and travelled and studied in Europe. She returned to Australia in 1928. She held her first solo exhibtion in 1931 at the South Australian Society of Arts, becoming known for landscapes, portraits and still lifes. In 1937 she moved to Melbourneand became a member of the Contemporary Art Society. She continued working until 1980 when her husband died. One of her last exhibitions in Adelaide was in 1984 and Aldinga in 1986.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $28,680 for Still Life with Flowers sold by Mossgreen Auctions in June 2010. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Kathleen Sauerbier are held by the Art Gallery of South Australia and National Gallery of Australia.
