Born in Sydney in 1953, Kerrie Lester studied at the National Art School and the Alexander Mackie College. Her first solo exhibition was in 1976. Known for her modern collages and assemblages, she has exhibited her work in Sydney since 1976. She was a finalist in the Archbald Prize prize 23 times and was runner up in 1996. The National Portrait Gallery acquired or commissioned her to paint four portraits and she was also a finalist in the Portia Geach Memorial Award nine times. Kerrie Lester was a regular finalist and exhibitor in the Wynne Prize and Sir John Sulman Prize group exhibitions.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $16,450 for Mr Whippy and a Budgie in a Beach Landscape sold by Christies in May 2001.
