Lance Bressow was born in Brisbane in 1942. He studied in Brisbane under Ellen Howland and Melville Haysom. In 1967 he travelled to Italy and on the advice of Pietro Annigoni entered the studio of Nerina Simi. He remained there for seven years. For the last two years of that seven years, he was an apprentice to Pietro Annigoni, working with him in the mornings. In late 1975 he closed his studio in Firenze and returned to Australia.
