Born in Sydney in 1926, Bernard Sahm studied ceramics and sculpture at East Sydney Technical College and in the UK. He worked in England at the St Ives potteries in the mid 1950s and returned to Sydney in 1958 where he set up a pottery at Mosman. In the early 1960s he taught ceramics at National Art School in Sydney. He held his first solo exhibition 1963, and has since exhibited widely in Australia and overseas since 1955.
