Tony Clark was born in Canberra in 1954 but grew up in London and Rome and studied for a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) at the University of Reading near Oxford. On his return to Melbourne his interest was in landscapes and the history of style and taste. His first solo exhibition was in Melbourne in 1982 and since then has exhibited regularly in solo shows Sydney and Melbourne, and over 80 group exhibitions. In 1994 he won the National Gallery of Victoria McCaughey Prize and a retrospective of his work was held at the Heide Museum of Modern Art in 1998. He is known for his Myriorama works, each one a series of landscapes in 6 to 12 panels with a common horizon line, that can be displayed in any order to form a single view. He now lives and works Sicily and in Essen, Germany.
