Born in New South Wales in 1886, Trindall was a men's hairdresser, but in about about 1912, decided to become an artist. He studied at the J.S. Watkins School in Sydney and won the Fairfax prize in 1914. He is best known as a portrait painter, but has also painted nudes, still lifes and landscapes. He became an instructor at the Royal Art Society School and has won several awards. He was a member of the Manly Art Society and the Royal Art Society.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $11,175 for Untitled (Still Life with Roses) sold by Shapiro Auctioneers in September 2003. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Gordon Trindall are held by the National Portrait Gallery and Art Gallery of NSW.
