Born in Melbourne in 1929, Bruce Petty studied extensively in Europe and the USA. An influential cartoonist, caricaturist and film maker, he has contributed to such publications as ':Punch' the 'New Yorker' and 'Esquire' as well as being chief cartoonist for the 'Australian'. His cartoons have also been featured in numerous books and have been the basis of several films. In 1977 he won won the Oscar for animation at the Academy Awards for his short film Leisure.
