Irena Sibley (nee Pauliukonis) was born in Lithuania in 1943 and married artist Andrew Sibley in 1968. She studied at the East Sydney Technical College (later the National Art School) and was noted as a printmaker and illustrator. She taught at secondary level in Melbourne from the late 1960s to the mid 2000s.She rarely exhibited, but has illustrated a number of children's books including When the Sun Took the Colour Away, (1987), William the Wizard who Wasn't, (1988), The Lady Down the Road (1995)The Bird Woman (1995), The Bilbies' First Easter 1996. n 2008, Irena Sibley was awarded the Keith Wingrove Award, a national award that recognises excellence in book plate art and design.
