Born in Albury, New South Wales in 1916, Dermont Hellier studied in Melbourne at the NGV school with Charles Wheeler. In 1942 he joined the Australian Army and served in New Guinea, then after the war resumed his studies under Harold Septimus Power. He also painted with Ernest Buckmaster. He is best known for his scenic coastal and snow landscapes and for his flower studies. He has held over 20 exhibitions, including a successful one-man show in London in 1966.
