Born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1885, Lincoln Lee was a poet, writer and watercolour painter, but moved to Auckland before the outbreak of World War I where he served as a gunner in the New Zealand Artillery. His maternal garndfather was the New Zealand artist, John Gully who died when Lee was 3 years old. Lincoln Lee exhibited at the Auckland Society of Arts and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts.
